Mad attitudes

sometimes, stumbling around the web,
the positivity of it all just brings me down...

that's when i have to do my own little remixes.
they don't make me feel any better,
but by the time i'm done,
it's time to go to bed.

another day in Heaven

"Dum-de-dum, hey, nonny noh, dum-diddy-dum-diddy-dum-dum-dum".

It was a happy day in heaven, but then, most days in heaven were happy ones. Sometimes things would get a little dark, but then he would usually black out and when he came to, the sun would be shining and some simple melody would warble through his thoughts again.

He loved these little melodies. He could sing them over and over, sometimes for what you or I might think was a million years, but to him was not even the blink of an eye.

"Here you go" he said, tilting the watering can, "free water, free water, dum-de-dum-de-dum". The fresh clear water sparkled down onto the blue-green ball and he stared, transfixed as ever by the beauty of the light and the water.

Then the voices started inside his head.
It sounded like people were freaking out, and it hurt his ears. It felt like a power drill drilling into the back of his head, and it didn't make any sense. He put the watering can down, so he could put a finger in each of his ears.

"Dum-De-Dum" he sang more loudly than before, "Hey Nonny Noh, Dum de DUM!".

He walked away, singing as loudly as he could until it was quiet in his head again.

He didn't know who was who was freaking out, or why, or who this "God" was they wanted. He didn't know about any "floods", or "catastrophes" or "disasters" and anyway, his name was Norbert.

the Excitable boy

Jimmy had always been an excitable boy, curious about every single thing and running everywhere he went. He was also prone to sharing whatever was on his ind ...in fact, sometimes he used his outside voice even when he was in the house!

One day, his parents decided they really didn't like him very much. In fact, they couldn't stand him anymore. So late that night, they had a Talk. By the time the Conan credits rolled, they had narrowed their options down to either an 'accident' on the basement stairs or putting him on medication.

Jimmy's dad told his mom that if ten years of JonBenét Ramsey had taught him anything, it was that even little bodies were a bitch and a half, so why not try him on the kiddy coke and see what happened. "It's a no lose" he reminded her, "the stairs will always be there of we need them".

Six months later, Jimmy was a new boy!

Now, Jimmy sat very still and the Ritalin did all the running, from the top of his head to the tip of his toes. Everything was fine, even if he didn't remember who this weird lady was, or why she was so stoked about showing him her dumb picture of an old hippie.

Understanding Facebook - 10 useful graphs

i have very mixed emotions about Facebook.
i have an account there but i don't turn up much because nothing much seems to happen. i'm more likely to find something interesting by clicking the "stumble" button again than i am by reading stuff on FB.

when i do post something, there's usually
just two or three responses which out of all my 'friends' is just kind of depressing... and if there's one thing i don't need, it's more reasons to get depressed and/or ratification of my own worst fears about my own insignificance.

i keep trying to understand Facebook, though - these are graphs i found in my search
for greater understanding...

this last graph is perhaps
the most interesting one...

does this mean that Bono
may have found what he
was looking for?

Mapping America

it's interesting to look at statistics
and look for patterns.

if you're bipolar,
it's practically compulsory.

in my experience,
pattern recognition aka connecting dots
is one of the things my brain
seems wired up to do...

Wall-marts in the US

Passport ownership in the US

...now that we're oriented,
check this out:

IQ levels by state

2004 presidential voting in the US

Over/under median family income (red = under)

this third red and blue
is a pivot point, i think

Annual beer consumption in the US

Per capita wine consumption in the US

Marijuana usage in the US

Religious faith in the US

H1N1 mortality rate in the US

what's interesting about this one
is that the mortality rates are inverted.
the highest rates should not be
in the least populated areas.

hmmmm...
