Read the Signs

signs exist to tell us something,
or to sell us something, or perhaps both.
in the past, they have been
primarily the voice of government
and business.

graffiti began as a handwritten form,
but with the advent of digital design
and printing, street artists now use
the look and language of these
communication devices to subvert
the seriousness of existing signs
in our life and to suggest
new possibilities...

this in turn has sometimes fed
back into these other zones

... and the beat goes on.

signs, graffiti, humor, discourse, democracy, dialogue, street art, subvert, recycle, attitude
