National Lampoon

.

in my  beginning,
there was Mad magazine.

then, there was
the National  Lampoon...
aka Nat Lamp

is that
the best cover design
in the history
of the printed word,
or what?

in '71,
in the high school cafetorium
issues were smuggled in
like crack.

this was liberation theology...

a psycho-emotional lifeline
plugged into a
big
neon
sign,

blinking

"not insane".

now add in
Monty Python's Flying Circus,
some Kraft miniature marshmallows,
the Mothers of Invention,
street hockey,
Jack Kerouac,
Exiles on Main Street,
heat the knives
drop some red Lebanese,
pop an Ex
and
we'll talk...

after this,
Hunter S.
and William S.
would make sense.

so would patti
and the pistols.

thanks!
